Appreciate means thank you ... which side of the bed did you get out of ?

We've been doing this project since 16th Jan, I am obviously going to fast for you !

You select a corridor of 10 degrees lateral width (East to West), I monitor it to see if I can spot any pre-seismic locations, then I place a prediction with a 30 day window and a +/- 1' margin, NOT a 10 degree margin.  If it was 10 degrees, I may as well leave a monthly subscription on Sumatra now !  I predicted three 7.9's last November/December ... how many does it take !

Yes I know but you took me wrong. I meant no offence there, just that someday you might think of something you need.

Hundreds but not all that big.

The problem is partly that Irish and American are two different languages, plus you know what you're talking about and I don't. For example "bearing" means a location to you but a ship's heading to me. (or maybe a piece of hardware that lets a wheel spin on an axis).

I said my program works and it does but it gives me RA and Dec, not geocentric lat and lon. I'm looking for the code to convert it.

Did you following the instructions I gave in the first post of this thread ?

Bearing is just a lazy way of typing co-ordinates, I assumed its meaning would be understood in this context.

I'm not Irish, I'm English ... If my words are being poorly understood, I can only apologies for being English !

Didn't understand it then, still don't, probably because I'm not looking at the map you're using.

In any event, you're selecting 4 locations, finding quake locations associated with those location (timewise?) and then betting that future quakes will happen there too.

Is that anything close to what you're doing and if so, what happened to sun and moon locations?

I understood what you meant by bearing, it just throws the rhythm of the dialog off.

As a side note, I've been to London, Aberdeen and Belfast in the past, passing thru on my way to pick up the oceanographic research ship I was working on at the time. Back in the 60s, that was.

Ok after giving this some thought, here's what I think is happening.

By whatever means, you're selecting 4 locations.

These locations determine two longitude bands of interest 

From those you are finding the areas that have the most quakes in a month.

Quakes are predicted for the areas with the most quakes in the past.

This is just playing the odds and it's self-defeating because the highest probability is the least valuable in determining significance.

High probability gives you more hits but they're worth less.

All of this could be done in advance but it would be a huge file. Then, getting a signal, it would be a simple look-up process.

As I have mentioned in the first post, I took two times off two peak from actual real time space data on the 2nd. I marked where the terminator thresholds positions where on both these times, and acquired 4 locations from where the thresholds meet.  These 4 locations represent crosses on a map, then just like we did in the test, I sourced the quake list for matching sunrise/sunset times related to these co-ordinates, i.e  15th Feb 5.5 Northern Sumatra 19:47:07 ut ... at this same time, the dawn threshold was on 143' 03' - 27' 45' N South of Japan ... I have therefore shown a possible post seismic connection in time, but this is only relevant if a quake occurs within the margin of this position !

I am not determining any longitudes, or latitudes for that matter, this is simply a real-time observation to see if an actual event will occur on one of these crosses. I am also demonstrating correlation with future events and the terminator thresholds at the positions they occupied at the times of the original space signal.

As Brian remarked, you have to ask these questions to get a better understanding of the project at hand. But I have given full instruction how I do this from the start, including images and websites. If you are studying literature with graphical representations, the graphs are there to be referenced from the text, otherwise the text is difficult to understand.  I can only show you how I do this from my perspective ... it is your choice to do as I do in order to understand this !

I've never been to the US, I have visited many country's in Europe but globally I am not well travelled.  Thirty years ago I cruised down the Nile from Cairo Egypt once, but these days Scotland is my favoured choice ... bit of a Rob Roy fan !

Just for exercise I sorted the 72194 5+ quakes in the neic catalog into an array according to the integer lat and lon values. That's an array 180x360 cells in size. While I was at it I noted the size of the largest cell. It had 434 quakes in it.

All of this takes about 5 seconds and the program wouldn't fill a page, printed out.

I have a small task for you if your program can handle it.  I need to know how many sunrise/sunset hits have occurred on co-ordinates 72' 14' W - 45' 55' S,  related to times of 5+ quakes between 5th March just gone and 5th March last year. I'm interested in direct contact and a 0.25 degree margin ... also, is there record of any events on said co-ordinates, I would imagine there would be because this is Chile.

You've spent a lot of time fixing it ... so lets make it work !

I'm sorry, I can't do it. My program gives me RA and Dec accurately but I can't find the equations for converting RA to longitude.

I can search for past events but that's it right now.
