Anyone interested in taking over? I'm apparently the wrong person for the job. The negative feedback over the last year overwhelms the positive by several orders of magnitude. And sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who takes an opposing view.

Maybe changing the forum software was a bad idea, but I really only got one very loud dissenting opinion. What few other responses I got were timid by comparison, but ranged from neutral "go with the flow" to generally positive.

There are fewer posts now than there were before I took over, although it should be noted that posting has been waning for many many years. It's possible the board died a long time ago and it's just been on life support, and this little experiment failed to awake the patient from its coma.

BTW, I can bring the old board back with only a few minutes work. (and although it would be a bit of work, I could insert this forum's posts into the other one)

If I'm doing it wrong, please tell me how to do it right.

But, if stepping aside is the better answer.... Maybe I'm the problem?

Not sure what you mean by "opposing view".

I like it and I think you're doing an outstanding job.

I think what happened is the flakes fell away and the science minded have nothing to talk about. Long threads are usually caused by controversy and there isn't any left.

I vote NO.

You're doing just fine. We're lucky to have you do it because it's a generally thankless job.

NO! you're not the problem.

Roger
Brian and all,

I agree you are not the problem, and I don't think you should go back to the old format (even though I replied by email that I tend to not like change). I tend to agree with Roger. We don't have new people posting, and the rest of us who do post only occasionally have new things to report. I don't miss the pseudo-science controversies.

I think Earthwaves will have a lot of posts for a while if there is a major USA quake, or a catastrophic global quake.

On the other hand, there was no need to name EQF; that came across petty and you should not be "outing" people. My suggestion is you remove that post and replace it with one that uses "EQF". I don't have an opinion on whether he should have been removed, because it is not so clear what the offense was, but you have that right. It also is not clear what the problem is from people who do not post. If you get offensive emails from people, I mean really offensive, you might have a policy that you post these contacts with the names of the people who did these (OK, contradicting my opinion on naming EQF). But, that policy should be spelled out here. And, wait for feedback from Roger and others. Doing this might end any problems you might be having with abusive email.

OK: why no new posters? Do young people no longer communicate on boards like this?

I could help a little bit by posting graphics, and hope to do so, but don't feel I can spend too long on posts. I'll try and do a post with graphics soon.

By the way, there is a new website on climate change and sea level rise at a nearby University, and its opening was a big deal with a U.S. senator and all, and a professor associated with it has a video or something. But, I was talking to him soon afterwards and he said he sort of regrets this because he has been getting threats.

So, maybe you should think that you (Brain) are doing your part and will get good Karma/Dharma, in your efforts to hold back the great tide of ignorance, that oddly seems to infect USA more than other economic powers.

Hi folks - I missed the controversy I guess - I always was open minded when it came to opposing points of view - this website originated with those psychic types in mind.. (ear tones, odd pressures, crazy pets, etc) along with the science - I am indeed the one to push the science aspects over mumbo-jumbo stuff over time.

The real hope was that this was a place where you could post predictions on quakes - meaningful ones - not the "3.0 in southern california this week" kind of things.. I think this originally started in 1996-97.. and it was a group that really got together over the 1994 Northridge quake..

We've not had any quakes that were really damaging in that time here in SoCal - we've had lots of predictions made - I've not yet seen any person or group come close to being truly meaningful or successful in this entire time. (Well.. Dennis Gentry seemed to have something but he disappeared)

This forum software is much better and more self-administering than the old - so it's much better.

There have been lulls in the past - so I wouldn't worry about numbers of posts - i there some way to publicize it's existence? I did have a robot in place to 'hide' it so it was a safe place to post.

When things like slow posting happened I didn't worry over much - I trusted the board to have a life of it's own and it would continue - I just sort of followed where it wanted to go. It really wasn't costing me anything but the domain registration year after year..

So that's kinda my 2 cents worth -

Canie
Thank you everyone for your comments. They REALLY help me understand where Earthwaves as a group is at. And, I don't feel so down about where we are.

Anyway, I want to make some suggestions about other changes and ideas that might bring more activity to the board, but I will start a new thread for that over in the Help & Comments forum.

Apologies if I got whiny, but I thank you sincerely for the feedback.

Guess that I'm chiming in late! However, just noticed this thread two months late, which tends to be a problem with this board's format. However, I agree that if and when there is a major quake or even a moderate quake in the US, traffic will pick up.
