rare events? Another Yemen Cyclone - Island Chris - 11-08-2015

There was a hurricane-force cyclones that hit Yemen a week or more ago. A cyclone there is just the local name for a hurricane. It was the first on record to hit Yemen. That means about 50 years of satellite coverage. It threaded the needle up the Gulf Of Aden (leads to Red Sea) between deserts.

One might conclude this was a 50 year or longer event. It is happening again, today, almost the exact same path.

There are parallels to earthquake: conditions are right. Except if you relieve all the differential stress on a fault segment with a lot of slip, you are not going to quickly have an exact repeat.
