Los Angeles (CNN)Ten years ago, Hurricane Katrina reminded us that when it comes to natural disasters, you can prepare for the worst, but it's also crucial to plan for the chaos that comes afterward.

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti took that lesson to heart. He is haunted by the memory of flying over New Orleans in a helicopter a full year after the storm and seeing whole sections of the city that hadn't come back to life -- and probably never would.

Full story and video at link.

This is the right attitude. I just hope it happens AND happens before it's too late. There is infrastructure not only dating back decades, but some of it is a century old (water lines, notably).

Heck, it could be good economically, too!!! Upgrading all this infrastructure is going to create jobs, and that means putting people to work. That means the very act of saving our future saves us now as well.

I was logging in to post the same story.
In other news, there has been long-duration magnetic storms. Three hurricanes in the eastern and central Pacific.
