Malaysia quake kills and strands climbers - Island Chris - 06-06-2015

I saw the M6.0 on the map, but did not realize it was deadly until I saw this CNN story:

http://www.cnn.com/2015/06/05/asia/malaysia-kinabalu-quake/index.html

It is a shallow oblique normal slip quake: 13 km depth.

Perhaps what is interesting about this is the landslides and that it is monsoon season. Landslides in a California quake might be worse if the ground is very wet (if the water table is up).

The BBC news ran a 15 second slot on this quake, but focused mostly on the before and after effects to a rock formation called "The Donkey's Ears".

Sorry, couldn't find a link to this one.
