New Zealand experienced just over 5000 quakes in the nine days following November's magnitude 7.8 Kaikoura shock.

But that number is hard to come to grips with on its own, so AUT lecturer Stefan Marks has created a virtual reality simulation that shows the size of the quakes and their location underneath New Zealand.

The simulation uses GeoNet data on magnitude, location, and depth. You can watch a brief video of it above.
