Hi all;

For the last week or so I've been struggling with a computer problem and getting nowhere.

I've always used Win XP because it will run an old DOS program I like in full screen mode.

I bought a used Toshiba laptop, intending to try Win 10 on it. Not a bad machine; AMD dual core, 4Gb RAM, 300GB HDD, all for $50.

Recently I've tried Win7 and Win10. 10 won't do it at all, 7 almost works. It will give me a half screen display when XP mode is installed.

Finally I gave up and went back to Win XP. Copied my programs on it, set it up exactly like my desktop. The program runs, full screen and all but won't close correctly. Have to use task manager to kill it.

I can't figure out what's going on unless it's hardware related, in which case I'm screwed.

Any ideas?

Never mind; I found a workaround.

Both machines have the command line screen and the program runs and closes correctly in it.

Full screen too.

Glad you got it fixed.

FYI, Windows XP Mode is only in 7 Professional, Enterprise, and Ultimate. So unless you have that you may not truly be in an XP compatible mode. It's actually a fully licensed XP Pro SP3 running in a virtual machine.
