There was a low end X class flare (X1) and the forecast for a geomagnetic storm up to severe tomorrow and next day.

There used to be a lot of talk on Earthwaves about relations between flares, storms, and quakes, but Roger looked into it and it looked like there was nothing there.

It's still talked about in other places.

It's easy to assume that two series of events which happen often might be correlated when events from each series coincide. Unfortunately, correlation does not equal causation. Something most people don't understand. Worse, when you tell them that, you better be wearing your flame proof underwear.

Brian,

There did not seem to be a correlation when we looked at this over a decade ago during the last 11 year maximum. Roger just simply compared the times of either X class flares or more likely, Major or severe geomagnetic storms against earthquakes over a certain magnitude. There did not seem to be any correlation. Probably Roger did not look at low magnitude quakes (for example, 3s), so cannot rule out nothing going on.

I suppose the archives could be searched but I'm not going to.
